Recap
On a glorious summer day in Denton, Radcliffe secured a commanding victory over Denton St Lawrence winning by 61 runs. Radcliffe’s pace attack made the most of difficult batting conditions to put the Saints to the sword. On a tricky batting strip, where the ball stayed low Jordan Booth was the stand out contributor racking up career best figures of 6-29 to make it Radcliffe’s day.
After losing the toss Radcliffe were put in to bat. The men from the Racecourse made a strong start, as Martin Coates found the boundary twice, once for a maximum, but the treacherous conditions led to a St Lawrence breakthrough, which brought keeper Jake Lockett to the crease. His methodical 38 was the foundation that Radcliffe built their innings around, with Shahzaib Mazhar and Jay Dimitrov making notable contributions. Radcliffe fought their way to 132 all out, which was always going to be a difficult score to chase on this pitch.
In response, Denton St Lawrence began their chase immediately under pressure from the Radcliffe bowlers with Jay Dimitrov immediately asking difficult questions. Both opening batters were dismissed within the first 8 overs and wickets fell consistently from there. Radcliffe maintained the pressure in the field with sharp fielding, the pinnacle of which was a sharp run out from Jahanzaib Mazhar.
However Jordan Booth was the star for Radcliffe. He was in devastating form, picking up six wickets for just 29 runs in his strong 13 over spell. His fiery spell of fast bowling completely dismantled the opposition’s batting line-up and sealed the match in Radcliffe’s favour.
